Chap 1... traveling to Laredo TX
It is with fear and trembling that I leave on this trip. Everyone we tell about our trip seems incredulous that we are driving due to safety issues in Mexico centering around drug cartel activity. But others seem very at ease with traveling in Mexico and seem to feel comfortable there if you exercise some precautions and don't take risks. So we pray and continue on. I have such mixed emotions about the trip. We love traveling in Mexico, the people, the scenery. We like having Cloud with us. But we will stay under the radar and play the tourist card - little jewelry, little make up, no fancy clothes, dirty car. Nothing to draw attention to ourselves.
We spent the first night at Laredo La Quinta and crossed the border the next day. We'll keep you posted as we travel. Love to all!
Just got into Matehuala and checked in at Las Palmas. Took Cloud on walk on grounds behind hotel. Wonderful concrete walking trail and park filled with cactus and a few trees. Nice day on road. No problems. On freeway entire time. Much dust in air due to burns along roads (on purpose to clear brush) and cement factories (big industry here). Kept us from seeing mountains. Looked like bad smog. Had wonderful dinner at hotel and met couple at next table who was from Austin!
Chap 2
San Miguel de Allende
Had a good trip to San Miguel and got to our nice dog-friendly hotel. F found it on internet as dog-friendly. But it wasn't and said we couldn't have dog. F talked very nicely to management and they moved us but allowed dog in room but not in yard. Cloud shook and teeth chattered all night (he knows when he is not wanted) and had to sleep with me (a first). I think he could hear cars with loud bass music going by outside. Neither of us got much sleep. Hotel is beautiful with gorgeous landscaping and full length mirror in shower which made the trip for Fred. Sorry, daughters. I know, TMF.
