Little Rock Friends Trip
10-16-2011
Had breakfast together at Pancake Man I got left at restaurant. No one noticed, of course, until Fred realized I didn't get out of either van! They went to a Cranberry Bog, which was very interesting... I was told since I missed it! They eventually came to get me. Then we packed and left for airport. Sally and Roger left us all at the airport except for Gormans who had one more day. What a great job the Van Dykes did on the trip. Everything worked out great due to their planning. Thank you guys.

Provencetown. Touristy town. High monument tallest sand stone in country. Right at north tip of Cape Cod. Really windy and hugh waves. saw cape cod lighthouse on way home. Stopped at a gift shop. Beautiful sunset. Traffic awful - bumper to bumper both ways due to Oyster Festival in Wellfleet. F stayed to watch Baylor game. Baylor lost. We
signed clamshells to remember trip.

In Concord, MA we saw bridge where "shot heard round the world" took place. Went to Minute Man National Park. Visited Walden pond. Beautiful! I
Wanted to stay there and script wise tomes. People were swimming in pond. One of deepest ponds in world. We saw graveyard where Emerson, Thoreau, Louisa Mae Alcott were buried. We ate dinner in West Yarmouth and had a lobster feast at a wonderful restaurant with great Halloween decorations. At home we played Yankee gift exchange (like white elephant) with gifts Sally bought. Great ending to great day.

Whale watching day cancelled due to high waves. Very disappointing especially to Betty who really wanted to see whales. Women went to Cape Cod Potato Chip factory to see how are made. Bought tons for our group. Ate at Schooners in Hyannis. Got homemade ice cream at Katie's. Enjoyed young man whose mom owned shop. Walked along the beach. Visited a few consignment/vintage clothing shops. Drove through Hyannis Port and visited St. Andrews Episcopal Church of the Sea. Beautiful and had wonderful cemetery dating back to 1700's. Guys went to a ship and toured it and saw PT boats. Tom and Fred spent day riding bicycles around the area and had a great time. They seemed to enjoy the day, too. Came home and Becky made nachos and we enjoyed a relaxing evening.

West to Sandwich and Plymouth and saw Plymouth Rock and duplicate of Mayflower. F found lots of history of Winslow family. Bought shirt with Winslow family listed on it. On to Quincy, where Dunkin Donuts started, and the train to Boston. In Boston we took the Freedom Trail which included 11 historical sites important to the Revolution. Walked into Furnuel Court House and found a huge picture of Edward Winslow. Then shopping in Quincy Market and a walk to the water. Had a big discussion with a vet who was against Obama and war. Ate at Ned Devine's. Food just ok. Stepped into Cheers and took pictures. Rode train back to Quincy to get our cars to B and B. Great full day! Joke of Day: you have to go down on elevator to come up!

Drove up coast of Cape Cod. Went north through Dennis, Brewster.. Stopped in Chatham to see lighthouse and homeland security area. Spent time Shopping in quaint stores in Chatham. On to Cape Cod National Seashore. Went to Nauset Light Beach Lighthouse and took tour up into Nauset Beach Lighthouse and heard how it used to be. There were three lighthouses called Three Sisters but 2 dropped into ocean. Lighthouse is open once a year at night on a full moon and we caught the night. Got some beautiful pics. Ate in Orleans at Seafood Grill and had room to ourselves. Lots of laughing. Leaves got devastated by Hurricane Irene and warm weather so no color. Sorry we missed that. Joke of day: 4 hour ballon ride. Ever been on one of those?
Gifts exchanged: Becky necklace with tim ornament; Sally odds and ends with treasure box magnifying mirror; Linda cranberry soap; Betty rocker charm; f bottle

Fred's luggage came but not mine. Went to Hyannis and walked the streets looking at cute shops and restaurants. Went to JFK museum but was closed for Columbus Day. Went to JFK Memorial. Memorial was here since Kennedy spent so much time in the area. Enjoyed visiting and catching up. Beautiful area with clapboard homes, green grass, flowers. Wonderful lunch of clam strips. F picked out a dress and several tops for me. Becky made wonderful tuna salad for supper. Weather is warm but great in shade. Our B and B is close enough to walk to ocean. Gorgeous sunset. My luggage came!

Flight was canceled. Could only get to Boston so Roger and John came to Boston and got us. Ate at Resturant 99 on way in. Home where we are staying is plenty big and adequate for all of us. Great to see everyone. Visited a while and went to bed. Everyone was dead tired. Our luggage didn't arrive. Maybe tomorrow???
