Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa

Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa
2-5-2012
Our place is great:  gated, with AC, pool, clothes washer, tiled floors, 3 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, kitchen, TV, wireless at pool only, dog friendly.  But we do have to walk to the beach, about 5 minutes.  It is very quiet.  Mostly Mexicans are here but there is one family from Colorado who home school their son.  Father is artist on sabbatical from small college in CO and mother is from this area. We have taken it easy so far.  We both have been very tired but did eat on the beach last night.  We usually stay in an apartment in Zihuatanejo (c wah ta nay ho) but decided we needed AC so we are in Ixtapa (Eeks top a) this year.  Ixtapa is the tourist town built by the government and looks like South Padre with many high rises right on the beach.  We found out they don’t allow dogs ON the beach anymore.  They are trying to keep it clean, which is good.  But we had loved taking Cloud on walks on the beach.

Weather has been overcast and rainy.  This is most unusual.  We couldn't remember it raining when we were here before.  F has started classes with his teachers and loves it.

There are lots of children in thiis community and especially every night about 5:00 pm.  They teach yoga and salsa by the pool so the moms bring theiir kids.  Because this is gated they can play in the street.  They love Cloud and want to pet him and always ask questions about him.  This neighborhood is really well taken care of.  They keep it nice and clean.  Most of the people live here but a few rent out their homes, like the one we are in.

We haven't eaten out much.  We can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, etc. and what F can make is better and cheaper than most of what we buy.  Only thing we miss is the ocean and the sounds.
