After oversleeping we rushed to pack and get out of our room. We ate a leisurely breakfast at 11:30 am and took the train to O'Hare. F had free passes to Continental Club so relaxed there with free drinks and snacks until
plane left. Another wonderful trip!

Went Chicago Institute of Art. We had lunch in dining room on third floor. Very elegant and good food. We hit some of the most famous paintings like El Greco's "The Assumption of the Virgen" and Marc Chagall's "America Windows". Wonderful! It's like the Smithsonian. You can ever expect to see it all. Ellen, Lena Hudson's best friend made a special trip to the city to get us and take us to the Hudsons. So nice of her! We had a wonderful visit and meal with Tom and Lena and the eight kids. We got to meet Sarah and Peter for the first time. We really enjoyed all of them. The kids are so interesting and talk to adults well. They seemed so glad to meet other relatives from Texas. I'm so glad we got to go and be in their home. It is so nice and they have done a great job with the home and their family. Tom took us to the train and we rode ut home.

We walked to Lake Michigan since f hadn't seen it. Nice day and we enjoyed the walk. We took
A bus to Wrigley Field which f hadn't been to in 40 years. We didn't go in but got pictures and saw the seating on top of apartments across the street from field! Then went to Frank Lloyd Wright, famous architect, home and took a tour of his home and saw homes he had built around the neighborhood. Loved it. He was a difficult man who had 3 wives but a real genius ahead of his time. Tonight we went to Second City Theatre. Second City is where many of the Saturday Night Live comedians started. It was packed on a Monday night. I mean your knees touched the chair if the person in front of you! But it was great and fee predict some of the 6 we saw will become famous. Some skits and some improv using audience suggestions. F got tickets because we had heard about it. Fun night!

We attended worship Holy Covenant UNC. We really enjoyed it. It was a reconciling congregation so very liberal. Very casual. Lots of young people. Met another visitor with relatives in Leander. We met with frustration trying to get to Tom and Lena's, Janice's son and family, home in Waconda. We were late to train because we got lost and the next one was in two hours. We rescheduled for Tuesday night. We went and ate Bar b q ribs at Millers Pub and watched the Chicago Bear football game with the rest of Chicago.

F continued his training and I went to Garfield Park Conservatory. It took me almost an hour by the time I changed trains. It was beautiful. It is largest garden under a roof in US. It was like a rainforest with lots of interactive activities for kids. I left and went to Chicago Culture Center and had lunch . Enjoyed an exhibit of "Walls" there by Fox. Beautiful and intriguing photos of walls and window all over world, even Austin. After F finished his training we ate at a Persian place and had lamb kabob. We went to Greenhouse Theatre and and saw a new production of "A Bright New Boise," a story of faith and religion through the eyes of a father trying to reconcile with his son! Interesting, made you think but not sure writer accomplished what he was after. F loved his training and the people he met. Very interesting and diverse group. Amazing the kind of people Habitat draws and their commitment. All of these people have been on builds to Africa, Guatemala, Skri Lanka, Mexico and want to now lead a trip. Ages range from 25-70.

After breakfast f started his training classes which will last all day. I walked to Lake Michigan. There is a walking/jogging trail right on the water. I really enjoyed it and got some good pics. I could see Navy Pier from the trail. That is where Bush, Sr. was stationed. But the best pictures were at the Lincoln Park Zoo. I spent quite a bit of time there taking pictures. I hate that the animals are caged but I loved seeing them. What fantastic creatures! The zoo was done well and the animals had quite a lot of room. Most were inside due to cold. I found a great tiny deli for lunch and warmth.
For dinner we went with the group to Basil Leaf Restaurant. We had a buffet with two salads and three pastas and chocolate cake. Good meal and enjoyable company. Even though I have not been attending the sessions they have been very friendly and inclusive of me.

We ate breakfast at the Monastery and then hit the road walking. Took the train into downtown and took a boat Architectural Tour of the downtown. We heard about all the buildings and who designed and built them. It was fascinating. The area is beautiful even if "person" designed. It has a beauty of its own unlike most of our trips. People have been helpful giving us directions not reserved like I would have expected. It snowed, rained, had lots of wind and was sunny today.
We ate at Smith and Wollensky's (think knives) for lunch and talked to guy from Santa Rosa (where we were this summer) who is in wine business. Went back for nap and went with two other Habitat people to eat supper. We went to Lu Malnati's Pizza to have traditional deep dish pizza that Chicago is famous for. It was great!

We are going to Chicago so Fred can get trained to lead an International Habitat build. We flew into Chicago and got to the Cenacle retreat and Conference Center which is a monastery. Reminds me of our Pecos Monastery in NM. In the middle of a very nice part of Chicago, Lincoln Park, just a few blocks from Lake Michigan. High value real estate. Walk ups are beautiful with lots of colorful tree lined streets. We ate lunch in the afternoon at a Mexican Restaurant (!!!!! in Chicago?), Zapatista's, which was surprisingly excellent. Not Tex-Mex but much more authentic Mexican. It was close and we were starving.
