Clothes Line and Other Thoughts

When is the last time you hung out clothes?  I think it was 58 years ago for me.  I remember the back yard in Little Rock and the clothes line, the smell of fresh clean clothes and me, being required to hang out clothes but actually not minding it.  Well, I’m back at it.  Just reminds me once again of all we take for granted and the distance in many ways that separates us and 3rd world countries.  We have a washing machine but no disposal, drier, or dish washer.  This is a middle class neighborhood, maybe upper middle class.  Everyone here has a new SUV.  One family has their own pool.  But so different from our middle class.

We have been to our favorite beach several times, Playa Larga.  So pristine and we always wonder why the hordes haven’t found it.  We were the only ones at the restaurant for four hours Saturday.  Beautiful beaches, few restaurants, and few motels.  No condos.  Only one motel we would stay at.  We went the next day to Ixtapa beach and found the hordes.  We sat on chairs that were part of the hotel where we used to stay.  If you buy drinks and food they are okay about letting us sit there.

I got sick Saturday night.  Don’t know why me.  F and I ate and drank the exact same all day.  I was sick all night and Sunday, about 12 hours.  We had gotten Cipro from our doctor so I am feeling fine today, Monday.  Boring.  I hate getting sick here but then I just hate being sick.  Slows you down.  We try to do everything to prevent it and I still get sick at least once each trip.  Grrrrrrrr!

F rode the bus into Zihuatanejo to meet his teacher.  They are going to a hardware store so F can learn about building and tools.  A man in our neighborhood has been telling him about the Mexican process of building and making concrete.  Francisco has been very helpful.

  1. It's gotta be less than 58 years because I too have childhood memories of sheets hanging on our clothesline. I think you just liked the way they smelled after they dried outside on the line. You need to write more, i check everyday.
